67% Gamers in India Prefer Personal Computers over Mobile Phones

A recent study conducted by computer manufacturer HP Inc. has revealed that personal computers (PCs) have become the preferred gaming platform for Indian gamers, with 67% choosing PCs over mobile phones. This preference is driven by the superior gaming experience offered by PCs, including higher frame rates (FPS) and larger, more immersive displays.

The study also found that gaming is becoming an increasingly lucrative profession in India. Nearly 40% of “serious gamers,” defined as those who spend between 12 and 23 hours per week gaming, reported earning between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 12 lakh per annum in 2023. This represents a significant increase from 16% in 2022.

Furthermore, the study highlighted the growing acceptance and support for gaming among Indian parents. A total of 42% of respondents indicated approval of gaming as a hobby, and 40% of parents expressed a more positive perception of gaming in recent years, largely due to the industry’s growth and the recognition of its potential as a career path.

Key findings of the HP study:

  • PC Gaming Dominance: 67% of Indian gamers prefer PC gaming over mobile gaming.
  • Rising Gaming Earnings: Nearly 40% of serious gamers earn between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 12 lakh per annum.
  • Shifting Parental Attitudes: 42% of parents approve of gaming as a hobby, and 40% have a more positive view of gaming.
  • Nationwide Gaming Phenomenon: 78% of serious gamers reside in metros, while 59% are from non-metros.

The study’s findings paint a positive picture of the gaming industry in India, indicating its growth, acceptance, and potential as a viable career option. With increasing parental support and the growing popularity of esports, the future of gaming in India looks bright.
